"good" Professions in eyes of CRA's

Recommended Posts

I have been pulling my report for a number of years, and I have never seen the first indication of "type of job" on a report. It only list the employer's name which can cover a lot of areas.

I'm confused by your question.

 Hi Wert,

In response to your question,i didn't make myself clear, sorry. This is in regards to TU. I'm sure some others on the board have company name & position listed on the top of the report below "former addresses reported" it says "employment data reported" list name of Co,Position,& date reported. It may be a case where your report may not have recorded that info on yours. mine says reported 3/2000. Any ideas on this subject anyone?.... I've heard that you get better scores based on your profession. see this link

Although this data may be on your report, it is against federal law to use that data for purposes of credit scoring (FICO/Beacon).

I have never, in over 25 years, ever had my job listed on a credit report. Only the employers name.

That falls under "too much information" for them to have. That could really be a snake that could bite you in the wrong situation. I would never ask for that to be put on my report.

If only your employer is listed on CR...then how does a creditor know what your income is? I applied for a higher credit limit, they checked my income...I'd like to know how they got that info??? Anyone know? Thanx

When you fill out an application, it usually ask your income. A credit reporting agency doesn't ask for your job or income.

That would really screw up the system more than it is if they did. You would report your job and income and then maybe not check your report for five years-it would have all your old information.

I don't understand what reports you have been looking at that have name of job and income.

I believe it most likely came from an application for credit ie. credit card app. I do beliee it's too much and will address it during my quest to correct my CR. I just thought that maybe it did count. Let's say your retired, do you putthat on the application for credit or do you put your frmer job classification? I can't see them denying you credit on that premise even though they have spots to indicate other forms of income (ie: alimony, etc.) doesn't specify pension, 401k, IRA and things of that nature. So why do they ask your job title/position at a company even though they have space for company name? Do you NOT fill that out? Then i would thik it wouldn't be complete applic. for credit. Yeah they aren't SUPPOSE to use it but they list it. They must want it for some purpose. If they don't use it why list it? Somethings fishy with that to me.

Any law on this listing job title in CR? Gonna need the help for later.

Your thoughts out there anyone......Things that make you go- umm

My employer name and job title has appeared on all three CRAs.

I got them updated and corrected since most of them inaccurate.

And they did state what years I was employed. I tried to correct them but TU would only put down all the employers with last years date (which is when I corrected it).

Experian demanded that I show copies of my w-2's before they updated that information. It must have some sort of value if Experian wanted this kind of verification.

However, nobody really knows what every factor is taken into account. Nobody has seen the mathematical model that Fair Isaac created or the tweaks that the CRAs did to that model.

 Hi Ravenous Wolf,

I understand you plight. Did you check out the link I posted in my reply to Wert? That may show you how thay May(?) be using it if they are.

I think this is something worth looking into. There's no reason to list something on a consumers CR that's not be used in scores or credit evaluations.

Maybe i shoud post this in Lawyers Board see if there's any hope for us there.

Can't believe they put you through all that troble over something that's NOT going to be used. Doesn't sound good for us who have this on our reports. Anyone else with this problem? Please share.

My credit reports do not show my title of my job...nor does it show my salary. But I asked for an increase on my credit limit, and they checked my income. Was just wondering where they got that info from? When I applied for this CC, it was done over the phone ( a union plus CC). I do not remember giving them my salary???

I have looked over the site "creditcrunch" referred to and it is some piece of info for everyone to look at. So now my question is...if one applies for a credit card or loan 5-7 yrs ago, puts their income on application back then, and today their income in higher...how would a CCC know what income that person is making now? How could they possibly deny or approve a credit limit increase not knowing what a person makes today? Are they going by the info we put on the apps 5 yrs ago? On the other hand...let's say that same person is a homeowner now (5 yrs later)...their score increases because of that? Or let's say they were promoted in their job to a higher position...their score increases because of their title? I read how we are scored on that site...and that is what I understood. What position we are in and owning a home increases your score? Am I correct here?

 Hi VeeGee:

This is really making me wonder. I got the same ideas you got from this article. But I have Read on countless occasions from posts on this board since reading all posts before postig myself that "job" related stuff such as mentioned in link is not considered when extending credit to a consumer applying for it.

The more i think about it, the more i'm convinced there's some "red-lining" in credit decision-making that is not known to the main stream public consumers such as ourselves on this board.

I suggest that all who have TU reports take note of your creditrs listed and let's commuicte to find out which particular creditor shares this info with TU. That will expose the creditor and CRA's for in my opinion " violating" the law, listing things that many say isn't to be considered in credit decisions.

okay...here's something to think about. My DH and I closed on our home yesterday..5/19/03.

Today...he applied for a home depot CC, puts down on application that he owns a home (thinking this would get him an approval with a high credit limit) he was denied ...he makes excellent income and has fair credit...the reason they told him he was denied was that he "JUST" bought the home...and they were afraid he had no more money in bank acct??? LMFAO. Now wouldn't you think they would approve him KNOWING he owns a home? Isn't the home considered an asset? He was approved for a mortgage...why not a Home Depot card? His salary can pay the mortgage, all our bills and then some. So I told him to go to another Home Depot store and apply again...this time don't put down he owns a home and see what happens? :p I am baffled...does this make any sense to anyone?
