What the heck is "INACTIVE"

Recommended Posts

I received a response from TU on my dispute and one of the accounts they have listed as "INACTIVE" - what the heck is that supposed to mean? It is supposed to be deleted and of course, if the CA doesn't respond to me in two more days, it will be!

Means the account is still open, but considerable time has passed since the last activity on the account.

If you still want the account, then call the creditor to activate it & get a new card. Otherwise tell them you want it closed - (this is so that no one else can get ahold of this account without your knowledge and charge to it).

Have to watch leaving accounts unattended for id theft to become a problem.

No, this company told me they were removing the accounts from my reports. They were supposed to be removed by the 8th of this month, according to the call I made. The 8th came and went, so I sent a DV letter. I haven't heard back from them, so I'm being very, very patient until the 30 days is up. Then I'm gonna SLAM them! They have THREE different account numbers on my report and I haven't used Ameritech in years! I know that two of them are from a "friend" of mine, because of the address that was listed on my account.

Inactive - means the account is still OPEN.

So not only do you want this removed - you want them to close the account down for good, so that it can not be re-used later on.

Sould of been able to call them requesting a fax or letter sent out to you confirming the fact of the matter that they will be removing this tradeline from your credit report.

Then if they continue to fail at updating the CRAs - forward the letter youself to the appropriate CRAs requesting removal.

Would have a serious talk to your friend about abusing you trust to be opening accounts in your name!

Did you report this as fraud to make her accountable to harming your credit?

Usual run of things is to file police report itemizing the accounts that were abused - providing copy of this report to the creditor & CRAs.

Also establishing victim statement on your credit report would be recommended w/ your phone number for creditors to verify idenity before extending credit in the future (this would protect your from something like this happening ever again).

Here is a site Kristy had recently posted for ID Theft pretty good site - lots of information:

Is there anyway to get Montgomery Wards to list as closed? It says inactive, when I disputed as closed EXP just put 09-closed by con in the statement area. I know they are out of bus, isn't there someone taking care of their accounts? I some accounts were transphered to a walmart card, but it had already not been used for a few years before that.

I found a 1st USA card that was showing as inactive on my TU report. I'd been carrying a large balance on it for years and had not used it. I've been paying on it every month so I thought it would show as paid as agreed never late. Well it does show that but 1st USA had not reported to TU since '98 and on EFX and EXP they had not reported at all. Well over the last few weeks, I transfered over 7K from it to my other cards and used it to buy $10 worth of gas hoping to get it to start reporting again. Wish me luck so that I can get the 1st USA TL to change to Active, Paid as Agreed Never late. That'll be a good tradeline for me because it's a card that I've had since '96.

sisflomi: In your case there is really no harm since this is not an account that can be used. Also most creditors now know the status of wards being out of business - there is no harm in leaving it as long as there is nothing else negative about the reporting such as collection or charge off. If it is in the positive section you are fine.

fixerupper: You definately be sure to keep an eye on your credit report from now on, that this person does not try to get away with such a thing like this ever again.

Crabjoe: Yes you handled this the right way; if you don't see the creditor update the status - call them directly and ask them to re-activate the reporting on this account. Definately will help with the long established history on this account.

Oh is TU is some bigtime major trouble with me! I am going over the report they just sent me that I received yesterday after faxing a nasty gram to them about only responding to three of my disputes by the 30 day deadline.

They verified a bunch of these that I am talking to the CAs and they are telling me they are suppoesed to be deleted!

The ones I have letters for I am sending along with the "delete or else" letter. How in the hell do they think they can verify an account if they don't even ask if it's current. Two of the CAs / OCs I've spoken with said the accounts are deleted!

Shame, shame on TU for messing up people's credit like that!

To the CRAs consumers are just a number - can just picture high school kids working these jobs. With the attitude of kids these days - I can just imagine the nightmare people have with messed up investigations.

I always try to provide documentation with my disputes - drawing the picture for them, so that an eight year old should understand.

But that is great just in the fact that the companies agree that the tradelines should be deleted - you have leverage in this matter. Also the company can easily send a Universal Data Form to them by fax stating the fact of the matter.

Since I did my disputes online, I couldn't send verification, but I am sending it with this letter. The funny thing is that my DH's report had 8 things deleted on his account, which I think was everything I disputed! Then turn around and look at mine and they responded to three of them and left the rest there, including the inquiries, which I am going to try and get removed!

I only gave a tolken effort once on disputing inquiries online for TransUnion. Know when I get somethings cleared up with my time - I will definately revisit this issue.

Buying a house - added plenty of inquiries in the last few months.

Disputing - really has its ups & downs when you are relying on a perfect stranger to process everything - and you get cut out of the investigation process. I know some here like cookie have referred names of dispute specialists that can be pulled in to oversee the dispute process - least with Experian I had taken down name she gave of Clara Blair Specialist Disputes Department 972-390-1680 Fax.
