Joint Credit report?

Recommended Posts

ok, I know I'm being cheap here, but here's the question. My wife just recently got turned down for credit. So I know she can get a copy of her credit for all 3 agencies for free. Now, since we are married, can I also get my credit report for free?

Nope, sorry - not unless you had applied as well and been turned down technically.

But sometimes you can dupe the system and try anyway. The CRAs can't keep up with weather or not the credit accepted or declined you. So they just have a log of who pulled your credit report. If this happens to fall within the last 60 days, you can obtain a free credit report from the system.

Here are the phone numbers:

Experian 888-397-3742

TransUnion 800-916-8800

Equifax (CSC) 800-685-1111

Follow the automated system for having been declined credit, and it should confirm at the end of the call if you will be receiving a copy of your credit report. Usually takes about a week turn around time to get the reports.

Try directly at transunion site www.transunion.com

Go to purchase $9 report; it will have you start completing the application part, at the bottom - it will ask if any of these apply in a drop down box, pick denied, and put in one of your current credit card companies you do business with. Chances are they may have recently pulled a credit report for review. Thus - you may still get a free credit report.

I actually don't have any credit cards (or a checking account) since they all got me into trouble when I was younger. Isn't TU mainly for folks living on the East Coast?

They are everywhere, you can count on that with all 3 of them, sometimes you might not see them due to one of the others having a stronger hold in the area re-selling to businesses.

Think of it like the telephone companies - they are always stealing each others business customers, just in this case you don't see the war with the territories going on.
