Susan811
I have two credit card accounts which are shown as "last activity" 7/96. My understanding is that they will drop off the credit reports as of July 31--is that correct? I am wondering now if I should dispute the accounts immediately since tomorrow is July 1, or would it be best to wait it out a couple of weeks then dispute? Or just wait and see if they drop off and then nail the CRA if they don't? Any ideas? I trust CRA's about as far as I can throw so I'm trying to figure out the best approach. Anybody have suggestions? :purplex:

So, it will take that long if you decide to go ahead and dispute. I would just wait it out. If it doesn't come off by then, write to them and tell them it's past the 7 year reporting period. But, this is just my opinion.Andi
md
I agree. Don't waste your time and money unless you know you are going to have to.
DunDone
Susan, In my experience the CRA's never remove obsolete information unless it is disputed. Although they are obligated to remove negative information older than seven years, the only one that I have noticed doing that is Experian, but even they are sporadic about doing it. Since the negatives are showing 7/96 I would recommend that instead of writing to dispute . . . call the CRA's, speak to a customer service rep and then only write to demand removal if you get a hard time. Good Luck . . . I have one remaining released tax lien due to age off in 11/2003 and a BK that will go in June 2004.DunDone . . .
Susan811
Thanks, all for your suggestions. I'm going to wait this out until the end of the month and then call the CRA's to have the accounts removed. Equifax is probably sick to death of me already
