counselor4kids
I posted this question earlier, but I did not get a response. I have a 30 day late on my credit report for May or June (depending on the bureau). The actual late payment was back in March. Is this incorrect information that I should dispute? If I do will they just change the month? I have my statement that says a payment was made for May and June and no payment is due until the end of July. kb9tbq
Is this the only thing negative about the tradeline? If so then you would try good will letter. But if this includes being in collection or charge off, then yes give a try to bump just send letter without the proof saying incorrect status please remove... just see what they do, might be updated might get deleted. Kind of a mixed bag dealing with the CRAs.
counselor4kids
So, if I send a goodwill letter that states that my payments for May and June are up to date is it likely that they will update the status for those months? Do they just request that the incorrect status be removed or would they say the 30 day in June is incorrect, but have them add a 30 day for March? They don't have access to my report without my permission, right? Would they be able to find out whether there is a 30 day late reported for March? kb9tbq
The creditor will know the fact of the matter - it is in their records not the CRAs. The good will letter is to ask them to please remove the incorrect lates listed, and if they could not report the correct later either in the matter. Since they were reporting incorrectly to begin with making it look like you were late twice instead of once. It is ultimately up to them, if they will remove the lates all together, should they opt to update, then one late is still better then two lates showing. The fact of the matter though, is that the account is also providing positive results on the scores, disputing with the CRAs might result in deletion, and that would hurt your score most likely instead of helping it.When you write the good will letter you are asking them, to please review your good payment history & take that into consideration to give you a break. Take this time to explain why you where late, like illness, loss of work... just let them know you where sorry for the late, it was a one time thing & won't happen again. This is the best approach to let the creditor take heart and possibly help you out in the matter. counselor4kids
I spoke with the creditor previously to ask which month I was late. Their records show that they reported it at that time. So, in a goodwill letter if I ask them not to report the correct month either won't that tip them off that it is not showing up on my report? If they say they reported it at the correct time how would they know if it is or is not on the report?
kb9tbq
If you just ask them for consideration to remove the lates, and leave it at that, the good will letters are pretty much trial & error trying to get their help in the matter.
counselor4kids
Does it matter that the info is, in fact, wrong? I was not late in the months that are showing up!!
kb9tbq
Yes, so that will be your back up card, if they don't want to be considerate to remove the lates all together, you can then point out they are incorrect to begin with.
