ml73
Hi. I am trying to help a family member fix their credit but I don't know if I was prepared for what I found.... 15 negatives and only 1 positive... I don't even know where to begin! Maybe you good people here can start me off in the right direction...My first plan of attack was to send dispute letters to each CRA to clean up old personal information (i.e. old addresses, old married names) and remove any personal statements. After that ??She has a Federal Tax Lien which she has been working with an IRS agent and he said that once it is paid off that they would remove it from the report (I told her to get that in writing). I don't think there is anything I can do about this one, can I?Next she has 3 accounts that are late...Ford Motor Credit which they still make payments on records 2 - 60 and 9 - 30 day lates but no payments are past due.First Premier Bank has 1 - 30 day late from last month, the acount is current and is over two years old. She called them and asked for forgiveness over the phone to no avail.. I guess a goodwill letter is her only other option.Fingerhut 1 - 90 and 2 - 60 lates but has not been updated since 5/2001 - the account is still open with a 700 balance. Not sure what to do on this one.Next are the Charge Offs Verizon - Closed 11/97 665 balance charged off as bad debtWachovia - Closed 11/2002 328 balance charged off as bad debtZales - Closed 4/01 1079 balance charged off as bad debtDirect Merchants - Closed 03/2000 0 balance payment after charge off/collectionProvidian - Closed 12/2000 0 balance charged off as bad debt.Cross Country - Closed 6/2000 1859 balance charged off as bad debt.finally there are those accounts that hit collection activity....Sherman Acq - CA for the Cross County account above show an opened date of 10/2002 and a new balance of 2134 which is 400 more than the OC lists. Both Calvary and Park Dansan - CA for Sprint which is not showing on the report - they both are trying to collect on the same debt - one lists it as 134 the other as 159 which my family member states they never had an account with Sprint.Asset Acceptance - placed 12/2002 they list that they cannot find debtor (states no forwarding address) this is a CA for Zales from above, amount owed 1260.Arrow financial - placed 10/2001 CA for providian mentioned above. Increased the amount owed from 1108 to 1371.Whew... that is a lot. Anyone want to try and help me get it started? Thanks a lot.ml73

I don't think there is anything I can do about this one, can I?Not much you can do here, you can dispute as Not Mine, and see what happens. If they IRS is working this, I would leave it be.Next she has 3 accounts that are late...Ford Motor Credit which they still make payments on records 2 - 60 and 9 - 30 day lates but no payments are past due.First Premier Bank has 1 - 30 day late from last month, the acount is current and is over two years old. You did not say when the last payment is made for any of these without any late fees on them to the OC. Once you get that, make sure its pretty close to the SOL date and dispute all as not mine if its safe. If its still well within the SOL period to be sued, make sure they have about half of what each account is first before disputing. Don't want to get sued. If they are newly co'd or newly gone bad, they can call the creditors not the cas and ask to reage the accounts. There is a sticky in the credit card section called reaging. Read up on that and see if they are able to do that. Read up on the credit repair sticky credit repair 101.
