Guest
Arrest: A Katie Lane couple alerted police to an identity theft incident when someone used their debit card to transfer money from the account to an address in Towson, Md. Police in Baltimore, Md., in cooperation with Watkinsville police detective Anthony Fortson, were able to identify a 41-year-old suspect who was arrested on numerous identity theft charges. He had been employed at a collection agency in Maryland, where he gathered personal financial information on people and used it for himself under a fictitious name.anyone want to take some guesses which CA this might be? Da_Bill_Collector
ID theft is a serious crime. Working in a CA gives us access to vast array of data. I can tell what kind of car you are driving, your addresses in past 10 years, complete credit report etc etc. There will always be greed that drives people to do bad things. ghacorp
This is not at all surprising and it's not the first incident whereby a CA employee has stolen information. There are a multitude of methods to use to find out anything on anyone. One common example is meta searching on the Internet to discover where the debtor is mentioned, then follow through on leads. Also, if they have your cell phone number they can go to the web site of the service provider, list your number as the ID, then use the last four digits of the SSI which is usually the default password, then find out who you've been calling and who has been calling you! One debt collector law firm in Phoenix, AZ calls people, leaves messages and says I need to speak to so and so, then reads out the persons SSI number. You havent seen it all folks!
