Old Addresses

I've been a lurker here for some time and finally decided to take action last month. Fantastic results so far - 4 of 4 deleted. Intially I was disappointed to receive from TU a form letter saying that a 4 year old judgement could be reported separately from the collection report. They said these are considered separate items even though it was the same original account. Two weeks later comes another letter and they are BOTH deleted. Yeah!!

Thanks for all this great info!! One question. On Credit Repair 101 it is recommended that old addresses and employment be removed. What does this accomplish and since it is easily verifiable why do the CRA's do it?

The way it was explained to me was that an address will remain on your CR for 5 yrs. But, if you have a TL that is an older one, the OC will continue to report it as it is included in your "file". Therefore, you need to also update with the OC to have them remove old addresses. This mainly applies to positive TL's. Negatives won't help you. FYI, at EX they have all of our addresses and employers for the last 30 yrs and won't delete, no matter what I say.

The main reason you want to get rid of them is that your address and/or employer is a way for CA's to identify and/or locate you. This is what you don't want. You want to be in control of how a debt is paid. Such as, you know you owe a particular debt, but, due to an emergency, such as illness, you can't pay now. Therefore, you will sometimes have the

"edge" when you make the initial contact to pay the debt. True, some CA's will file suit to gain a default judgment in your absence anyway which could create other problems, so you need to weigh all avenues to make it work to your advantage. You also don't want it to appear as though you move around alot. Time at residence has some bearing on whether a loan or account is opened at some businesses. This also can help when you dispute as "not mine". Usually a CA doesn't have all of the info on you, so, without having a correct address can, at times, result in a deletion because the address submitted to the CA by the CRA does not match what they have in their files.

The last paragraph is my own opinion, so, if any of the others has comments or any other input, please don't hesitate.

I removed all of my old addresses form all the CRAs. I had to fight at EX, but they appear to be gone. None are showing on my report except current.

I thought it would really help (still awaiting dispute results), but it appears the CRAs sell the new info to the CAs, as a few have already contacted me at my new address. So, I'm not really sure if it helps or not. We'll see...

I don't think you canb do better than 4/4 though! Congrats!!! :D

I have had all of my old addresses removed from all three reports. I just called EX and they placed them in dispute then a few days later they were gone. Also I would suggest that you do not receive mail at home and get a PO box for all of your mail to be sent to. Update this address with all of your good TL's. It is a privacy issue with me. Almost any company can look at your credit report so it is best that these folk have as little info as possible. Also if you do get a po box make sure if you apply for credit to put it as your address on the application. If you don't and then use your home address then that creditor will send that information to the CRA that they use to pull your report. If you have a cell phone, give them that instead of your home #. Privacy is no longer what is was...do what ever you can to protect it..just my 2 cents
