Is this a good or bad TL?

The oldest tradeline on my credit report dates back to 1992. The account is currently listed as closed by the creditor (Chase NA) but it was paid in full. The account has about 12-15 lates going up to 120 days with the last on being early 2000.

Should I even bother trying to have this removed? I'm not sure if the age of the account outweighs the late payments as far as my scores are concerned.

Here's my other tradelines:

Auto Loan 1/1999 Paid in Full / Never Late

Auto Loan 8/1999 Paid in Full / Never Late

Auto Lease 1/2003 Open / Never Late

Installment Loan 5/1996 Paid in Full / Never late

Cap 1 Card 2/1999 Open / Never Late / zero balance

Sears Card 5/1995 Closed / 4 lates (1/1998)

I also have some charge-offs and collections that I am in the process of removing.

To make a long story short, I'm looking to get a mortgage in early 2004. I guess I'm looking at a timeline of a few months to get things cleaned up.

Thanks,

MrGuy

With your other positive tls (although not much in the way of open tls), I would personally have it removed. Even if it dropped your score down some, I would prefer that than showing potential lenders that I had an account with a dozen or so lates. They will look at your actual CR for a mortgage, which makes this different than applying for many CCs online. I would rather have limited credit than a tiny bit more extensive credit with a dozen lates.

If you want to try and boost your score I would suggest getting rid of this tl and finding a close friend/relative that will put you down as an AU on their account. Once you get the card (and explain this beforehand) give it to that person and never use it. Of course you want this to be an older account with very low utilization and perfect payment history. This could help your score a lot, depending.
