For awhile now,I've been getting letters and phone messages

from Arrow Financial. The account they are trying to collect on

is an old checking acct. from B of A.Its been at least 5 years

since I've had an acct. with them. The best part is they

have my name all mixed up;middle name first, last name middle,

first name last!Should I send them a DV letter thereby

verifying my correct name,or just ignore them.

The bottom line is I don't even remember owing any money.

Thanks,

PW

These are different (checking accounts) because they will enter it into the check system black listing you with other banks for opening such accounts. Usually it stays in the records for up to 5 years I think... don't have no hands on experience with this one to know for sure.

If you say they have your name wrong that is one thing... but it is most likely that they have you social security number to still track you down if they wanted to. Checks are considered a promissary note, if you check the link above for Statute of Limitations then you can look up for your state how long it is they can try to collect on this debt legally - then go from there on what you want to do.

Wait, you might first try disputing incorrect personal information on your credit report. Like any incorrect spellings on your name, and all old addresses to get removed... then turn around and dispute that Arrow reporting... you might get lucky to bump this off of your credit report if you eliminate the relevent information they have on you.

I would try that first then fall back to dv second... since you did say they don't have your name in their system right... might just get fortunate to get this off of the credit report.
