erik
"Watchdog group highlights ease of access to personal dataBy Bruce Mohl, Globe Staff, 9/26/2003A San Francisco-based consumer watchdog group yesterday highlighted the vulnerability of personal financial data by saying it had obtained Governor Mitt Romney's Social Security number for $30, but even more detailed information was available for the right price. For an extra $125, the Globe purchased Romney's Trans Union credit report, with a listing of all his credit card accounts, credit card numbers, credit limits, auto leases, and payment history going back more than a year. The credit card numbers alone were enough for someone to purchase virtually anything on the Internet. The company the Globe dealt with, Goldshield Inc., said it could also provide a listing of the governor's recent purchases on those credit cards for an additional $225."Mass get a grade of C.http://www.boston.com/business/globe/articles/2003/09/26/group_buys_romney_data_to_show_ease_of_id_theft
kb9tbq
OOPSSee a law suite there for that! Not a very good idea for proving a point!Yea that is scary about how TransUnion reports account numbers completely in the credit reports!!!BUT that is going to change next year when the new update on the FCRA goes into effect, one part is that the CRAs are required to obsure the account number - about *#@ time, I called them up one day to no avail arguing about just that, didn't get anywhere either, or with the creditor for that matter! kb9tbq
Check this out, another member posted links to follow along on this part.I see it has passed both the House & Senate, it should be finalized this quarter and go into affect for begining of next year. Least most of what it contained... interesting read and covers quite a many additional issues here.http://debt-consolidation-credit-repair-service.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3797
