badFICOscore
My boss who is also a very good friend of mine has agreed to put me on his credit card as an "authorized user".....it's an account that he's had for about 15 years with a high credit limit that he doesn't use very often....usually only around Christmas......he has a perfect history with it...never late or anything derogatory........this is a good idea, right? When someone wants to put me on there card as an authorized user will the credit card company check my credit.......since my friend has had the card for a long time are the chances pretty good that they will allow me to be added? Also, I have several accounts in dispute with the credit agencies.....should I wait until they have been resolved to be added to his card or does it matter that I have disputes? sisflomi
Hi there, glad you are asking about au's before you go that route. First never trust a friend no matter how much you love them or respect them or know them or "trust" them. Now, it will help your credit as long as the friend does not go over 25-30% of the credit limit when they use it. The history of the card will be brought over to your credit report and should help your score. Not all cards report au's to the cras. You need to call the creditor first and make sure that they do. You can search the board here for some that do report au's, I know chase does. If they wanted they could prob add you as joint. Remember once your on there as joint, your lible for the payments too. If they ever didnt pay the bill the cc would come after you. Some cards would let you take over after 6 months and remove the friend as long as there was no balance on the card when you are ready to do it.Just be cautious, test this person first and make sure they are doing right by the card before you decide to go joint on it. Good Luck
nativechild48
It can't hurt if he makes you an authorized user. I would say its okay even while you are disputing because its his acct. and he's still responsible for it. It is a good idea for you not to apply for credit while you are disputing. Actually being an authorized user can help you with your credit.
