Moving Along....now this!

Well, I have had some success here. I have corrected all the personal info for dh and myself, and started disputing. I already have 2 accounts deleted! One of those was a dispute which started on 10/5, and TU already sent me the new report! Which brings up a question...The account was a CO with Citgo reporting to all 3. Since TU has already deleted it, does that mean Citgo couldn't verify it and the other 2 CRA's will have the same outcome?

Now, question #2, I am not sure if I am posting this to the correct forum, but you guys have been so helpful...here goes....

In 2000 we bought a new computer and got the "rebate" by signing up with MSN. $21.95 was taken from our checking account (via Visa check card) each month. We used the MSN account for about a year, then DSL came and we just quit using MSN. But the $21.95 was still coming out of our checking account until the contract was up. No problem. Well, eventually the $21.95 quit being charged. I didn't go dig up the paperwork, but I figured that since they had quit taking the money out, that the contract was up. This was last year.

A couple of weeks ago I got a letter from MSN saying that "recently my credit card had quit accepting charges" and we owed them $256.80. I haven't had time to call them or anything. I get a letter today from "D & B RMS", "D&B Receivable Managent Service", "Dunscomm" (yes, all those names are in various places on the letter) saying I owe MSN $256.80. It says the account has been "placed with them" for collection, and I should send the $$$$ to MSN.

What to do? Should I DV them? Just pay them? I am not really sure when our contract was up, but my checking account and checkcard are the same as ever and there is no apparent reason that it should have refused the charge. I was never notified that there was a problem and the last time they billed me was 10/02.

No it doesn't. There are timing issues as well as which CRA's the CA's and OC use. You have to deal with each one as seperate entity and potentially in different ways.

What to do? Should I DV them?

Absolutly! Make sure not only that they itemize the total history of your accounts, but that they dig out MSN IP logs showing that you even logged into the account. This should be provable on your side and they should have lack of proff on theirs. You should not pay and fight it. Eventually you should get it removed. I would not deal in the least with the CA on this one except DV. I would then pester MSN about it, over and over and over. I do not know what kinds of contracts that the computer sellers have with MSN, but I might even include them in on the loop with a potential ITS [intent to Sue].

Go get em..

Ok, it wasn't for the computer but just the MSN fee :? Was there an end to how much MSN would be paid or was it until the computer was paid off :?: If this is the case, that contract was fulfilled then yes I agree with timber and mom should not have to pay the extended fees for MSN :) I would definitely look up the paperwork on this one and start getting my weapon loaded and go hunting for bear

The contract was one of those "2 years- $200 off" "3 years- $300 off" "4 years-$400 off" things through Best Buy. The problem is, I honestly do not know if I did the 2. 3, or 4 year deal. I know...DUH! Unfortunately, when we got the contract, I was not good at keeping paperwork, and it has gotten lost somewhere along the way. I may owe one more year, or I may not. I am not sure. That is why I thought I should DV them. If they can prove I owe them the money, I will gladly pay them. Although, I think they should not get a lump sum, but $21.95 a month until I pay what I owe, because they should have told me a year ago that this was happening! But, that is another story! LOL!

BTW- none of this has made it to the CRA's yet.

BestBuy keeps track of purchases similar to CircuitCity :) I really don't know how long they keep the purchases in the system  .

However, if it has not reached the cras yet you probably would be better off working with the oc on settling the matter. On the other hand, the ca has to validate and if they can't it should be a wash...unless they sell it to another ca :x
