travelgrl
This local mortgage company called us a few weeks ago and apparently they said that me or my DH spoke to one of their marketing reps concerning a mortgage loan. Now I knew this was not true b/c we are not in the market for a loan AND my DH is a broker himself so why would we go to another company? I found out that this company had pulled a hard inquiry on both of our EQ. Neither myself nor my DH had ever spoken to anyone from this company and certainly had not authorized them to pull our CR. The manager claimed that they have taped recordings and would get to the bottom of this. I faxed off a NON PP letter requesting $1K for each of us. This was on Nov 11 and I gave them until Dec 8. Today I get a fax stating that they have removed the inquiries off of our reports and that this should take care of the situation. That is all well and good, but my problem is I don't want them to get off the hook that easy. I wonder how many other nonsuspecting homeowners have they done this too? The problem is, most people don't know the laws and would not pursue it this far. They still violated our rights and I think they should pay for this. I filed a complaint with the BBB this morning before I received the fax . They are a member of the BBB in good standing. I want compensation as it has taken time, money and stress for this. What do you guys think? Am I right to pursue this further?
QTP2T
Travelgrl, I think you are definitely correct in pursuing this violation of your privacy! Without question! The mtg.co. obviously & blatantly abused their privilege of being a subscriber to the CRA. They are probably counting on you not pursuing this matter any further; otherwise, why would they implement this practice in the first place? Give 'em hell! I, for one, would be very interested to hear how this all concludes.
