Lucifer
I applied for the Discover Platnium card on Sunday March 14th online. Saturday yesterday the 20th I called and asked the status of my application, the lady said it was still pending? Do you think they could be actually considering approving me? Q
I am under the impression that with score of 720 and above, you can just about get anything. Maybe I am wrong...

Lucifer
well the reason probably is because of limited length of credit history. I only have about 2 years on 1 card. So Ill just sit tight and let my 2 new Household cards age and then try again in the future.
ananias
I notice that www.discovercard.com also allows you to buy CDs and invest in money market accounts. Have you considered asking them if having a CD account would have any effect on whether you'd qualify for one of their credit cards?

creditmess
Yeah I applied with them too and my TU score is about 720. They pulled TU and I got declined. The reason was too many recent inquiries and too many new accounts. Screw them I say...
ananias
I know of no other credit card that gives you a full 1% refund on everything you purchase. In addition, if there are markets or other retailers that allow you to get "cash back" on purchases (as Vons and Ralphs do in California) then that one percent rebate extends to even the things you must pay with cash, like rent and car payments for example. My advice is to simply keep trying to get that card. I've had mine for a long time, and have saved many thousands of dollars on very basic expenses like groceries, rent, and insurance. In addition, this company, more than any other is willing to effectively pay me for NOT using their card but simply for carring a huge debt. I didn't understand why they did this until I read about how credit card companies finance the money they loan us (via derivative investments called Collateralized Debt Obligations, or CDOs.) Basically, a credit card company can save money on their interest expense by lending out large amounts to people with good credit to raise the averaged quality of their outstanding loans. In my case, having an average debt to Discover of 90,000 at 0% interest for more than a year now saves me over 3,000/year in interest I would be paying on higher balances on home equity credit lines and stock margin debt. So for over a year now, this has been a card that pays me over $250/month simply for not using it at all.
