Paying a collection account effect on FICO

I have read on this borad that having a closed PAID collection account is just as bad as having an open UNPAID collection account on your credit report. Is this completely true in regards to your FICO score? I can see how having it listed would look bad to anyone reviewing your report or even that it still counts against you when determining your FICO score but is it really the same point loss no matter if it is PAID or not? I thought I noticed a jump in my Experian score a while back when the claim they verified some accounts I disputed but they changed them to closed with a $0 balance instead of open with the previous balance

Thanks

a collection is already a negative paid or unpaid.

but what seems to really matter is the date..

so you pay it and all of a sudden the date of

last activity is changed and sure enough

it has a negative effect.

so a two year old collection which is paid off today

no longer for the fico is it 2 years old its fresh...
