Collections / New to this stuff

Recently I injured myself and have been out of work. One less income with our credit cards maxed out we fell behind in payments. Two of our credit cards companies have been working with us. Citibank sent it to collections. Collections were hot on our tail but after finding this site (Thank God), I sent a certified validation letter. The company failed to send us any notice within the five days after intial contact. They faxed us a settlement agreement which was not the same as what they said on the phone. The same day they received the letter we got a phone call that evening by phone and left a message. Violation? Anyways I'm new to this stuff so any suggestions would be great.

Collection agencies who get your DV notice can either validate and continue collecting, or not validate and stop collecting. Sounds like they are trying to work out a payment deal with you to avoid validating. I would resist this, unless you are comfortable the your ability to make the payments. Keep your contact with them in writing, too. If they call, you can ask them not to call you again.
