Acidy
So yeah, my roommate apparently has a debt through good ol bank of america and some collection agency called Penpro a$$. now has the debt. my roommate called them, got bounced around when he told them he never had a credit card through bank of america. but, they have his real social security number and his old mailing address. but, when he tried to give them a new mailing address so they would have a way to get a hold of him, they wouldnt accept a change of address. then when he asked them for their company's name he got it, but they wouldnt spell it out. also they would not, i repeat, NOT, give him their mailing address. and when he told them he wanted a debt validation they said they already sent him one, which i know is bs. he said he never saw any mail from them, ever. they said its not their fault he hasnt gotten anything. but basically, my roommate hung up on them. so, is this stuff for real, scam or a case of identity theft? and what should he do? goodmank
They probably can't spell Try this..........Call them and ask them where you need to send payment......if you do not mention debt validation then you may get an address........if they try the old check by phone simply tell them that you do not have a bank account and must send a money order........you will also tell them that you need the correct spelling of their name so that you can fill out the pay to the order of line on the money order. DocDon
I did a search and nothing came up. Have your roommate play detective and do as goodmark suggested. Get an address. Get a valid business name. Hard to believe a Google search doesn't even produce a close result on this "CA".This is gonna be fun.....
Acidy
yeah ill have him take their suggestion, but im still pretty sure they are a scam. and yeah, i think this will be fun. but i did my own research and couldnt come up with anything on them. as far as i found out, they took their name from a computer program, hence they are a hoax. retmar
At the same time, I would contact BofA and ask to speak to their internal collections department, or whoever. Inform them of what is going on and see what you can find out. Also, purchase copies of each of your CR's and see if anything is being reported. If you have the number on your Caller ID or it was given, call it and see who answers. Check with the phone company.Do not be afraid to say you feel you are being scammed and that is why you are covering all angles.check the ACA site and see what you can find by using the info you already have. flacorps
Sniffing around on Google I found this name that's fairly close:Penn Credit CorporationThey may be the collection agency, but "Penpro a$$." may be "Assets", meaning they've opened a junk debt-buying affiliate. Or it may be "associates. "
