DV vs. Settlement Offers

Another silly question, but one others may be wondering....

Should you use DV for anything Derog, even if you know the info. is correct, just in case the DV process goes in your favor?

Or could it possibley be a big ol' waste of time which would better be used trying to go ahead with Settlement Offers, etc...

Opinions please?

In one case where I had a small medical collection, knew it was mine, recognized the amount (not marked up, believe it or not), I just sent a pay-for-delete letter certified mail (return receipt requested, of course).

I haven't heard back yet, but I really didn't think it worth the bother in that one case (they were reporting two negative TLs that were out of SOL for suits, but not reporting).

In my case, I offered payment in full because they were an assign rather than a junk debt buyer.

So, yes, sure, if you really think they are the people currently handling the debt, you are certain it's the right amount (approximately) and feel comfortable offering a pay-for-delete deal, why not?
