kd04
A while back my father allowed me to get a credit card in his name and have me as an authorized user so I could use it when going back and forth to college. Being stupid, I got behind on the payments and when my father found out he said he didn't remember giving me permission to get the card. We did it over the internet therefore there is not signature or anything to prove he authorized it. When I pulled my credit report the cc company is reporting the negative information on my credit report too and I was wondering if I called them and asked if they could just roll the card over into my name alone without my father on it since he is having memory lapses...My father said he was going to send disputes to the credit reporting agencies and get if off of his credit since he did not authorized the card. But do you think the credit card company will allow me to care the card since they have already reported to the credit reporting agencies as a bad debt and I ask to work some type of payment with them.... DocDon
An authorized user is not liable for the debt. If you were in a joint account, it would be different.Further, it doesn't matter if you missed payments - as an AU, the billing statements still go to the primary account holder's address. Your dad could have seen payments weren't being made. No, the CC company is not going to let you keep the card. The card's been charged off meaning they've already reported it a profit loss to the IRS. You might as well cut up the card.
