juggernaut
I am looking for advice, resources, or other info on rulings and sentences for family credit card fraud. I'm facing a big dilemma right now. My 55-year old dad opened several credit cards in my name, ran them up to about $30,000, got divorced, and stopped paying the bills (due to the divorce i guess). He has also started some kind of arbitration proceeding and thinks he's going to get the debt eliminated that way. I don't think that is going to work out, and my problem is deciding whether to file charges and send him to jail (not a favorite choice), to accept the debt as my own and file bankruptcy (the most likely), or to take the debt and pay it myself (not so easy since i am about to graduate college and have a significant student loan debt of my own). i cant even imagine what the minimum payments to the credit cards would be. if my dad goes to jail i also have to worry about what happens to the people who still live with him, not to mention the fact that he has threatened suicide. One of the cards (which had both of our names on it) is suing us in commom pleas court in the state in which my dad lives. I am at wits end tring to figure out what to do, and he is pressuring me to sign a power of attorney so that he can defend me (us) in court. DocDon
Sorry to hear about your trouble juggernaut.Unfortunately, yours sounds more of a familiy issue right now, and given the seriousness of this situation (talk of suicide), I would have to say it would not be a good idea for any member of this site to give you specific advice on what action to take until your personal familiy matters are addressed.
