paying OC instead of dealing with CA

Hi

I just pulled my reports and found a new collection from a collection agency with an orignal creditor of T-mobile. The problem is that I have never used them or purchased service with them. I did have Voicestream. My final bill was in 2001 and I guess my last bill was not paid. T-mobile supposedly bought out Voicestream, and instantly it went on my credit through this collection agency. I never received anything from any of them.

Anyway, my question is, I contacted T-mobile. They said I had to deal with the collection agency. Is this incorrect? Dont I have the option of paying T-mobile the past due? And if I do that, what happens when I validate the debt with the collection agency if I paid the original creditor?
