morrow
If I were you...I wouldnt give up....keep buggin the pants off em till they start reporting correctly. Not only would I call them, but I would also write a letter to them, threatening to file a complaint with the FTC and BBB. You also may want to include any proof if you have it...copies of statements and what have you.If all else fails, you can try disputing it with the CRAs.Good luck! user33658
I followed up with Badcock and this was their response. Ms. XXXX, Your account was reported as closed by consumer with a zero balance, no credit limit. The correct credit limit was reported according to our copy. reporting the account with a zero balance and "closed per consumer" will help your credit score. It means you have closed the account and will not count against your indebtedness. Please note that does NOT mean you annot come in and reopen the account. I was trying to give you an even better rating since you are in the process of applying for a mortgage. Most mortgage companies require consumers show closed per consumer's request on all accounts with zero balances as it increases the credit score). I also reported your account as paid as agreed each month. There should not be anything showing any late payments. I have mailed you a letter showing you have a perfect rating with a $0 balance and also included an audit of your account to show it was paid as agreed. The letter was sent out on October 14, 2004. If you do not receive it within the next few days, please let me know. If you would like for me to resubmit something to remove "closed per consumer's request", I would be happy to do that. Sincerely,Badcock
breathing_easier
user33658: It sounds as if the OC was trying to help, but since they have no real grasp of how FICO works they hurt it rather than helped it. Same thing happened when my 10-year, open, never late Marshall Field's account suddenly began reporting with all three CRAs as closed with a $0 balance and "account sold or transferred" and then they disappeared entirely. Target has sold Marshall Field's to The May Company and some accounts were inadvertently reported as closed even though they are still open. My scores dipped 10 points across the board due to their being one less open, positive TL on my reports and my available CL decreasing, as well as the utilization factor. Since I'm still using the account, Marshall Field's has assured me that the correct TL will finally return, but it hasn't happened yet. I have been making a pest of myself with them, just as morrow suggested that you do with your OC. Tell your OC that you want the account reported as "open" with all the original info. My Marshall Field's TL has reappeared on TU, but is still showing closed. At least it's a start.

That totally jacked my utilization and it took a long time to get me under the credit limit. And I spoke to the customer service reps and their managers until I was blue in the face but to no avail... user33658
I emailed the credit manager and this is the response.Ms. XXXXI have submitted a new update to the credit bureaus today to show your account as a current (pays as agreed) account with a $0 balance and $4500 credit limit. I have requested they remove the remark of "closed per consumer's request". Because this was sent using an automated system, it should only take up to 5 days for the credit bureaus to change the information on your report.Ms. XXXX, I apologize for assuming you were requesting the account show as closed. If I may be of further assistance, please feel free to contact me. Sincerely,Badcock
