Equifax PG FAKO vs. Equifax FICO

Can't find the original thread so I'll start a new one. About a month or so ago we were discussing what a "true" FICO score is and which of the three CRA's scores most closely resembled a "true" FICO score. I think I was having the discussion with DocDon, but not sure. It was said that Equifax's score most resembles a true FICO score. Anyway, I promised that in October I would purchase a new Equifax FICO score from myfico.com to see how it compared to my PG Equifax FAKO score. I did that today (purchased my Equifax FICO score from myfico.com and pulled PG today). My Equifax FICO score is just one point higher than my Equifax PG FAKO score. So, whoever said they thought that Equifax score was the closest representation of a "true" FICO score, I think you were right.

Equifax leases BEACON (trademarked) software for their scoring purposes. There are several models available: BEACON, BEACON 5.0, and BEACON Auto Enhanced...

Trans Union leases EMPIRICA software.

Experian leases their software from Fair Isaac (FICO), so an Experian score would comes closest to FICO, MyFICO.com or FAKO.

Hope that helps.

On 9/23 this is what DocDon posted on the thread I linked in my previous post:

"It appears now, however, that EQ is partnered with FICO to give you your real score (what used to be EQ's Beacon score). We have to see if anyone pulls from myfico and gets a Score Power to see if they are actually one in the same."

I pulled my myfico.com Equifax and Experian scores (for some reason I still can't access my TU reports or score via myfico.com). I think what I'll have to do to see which comes closest to the myfico.com score is to purchase each score separately directly from the Equifax and Experian sites.

I found all three FICO's to be 1-5 points hgher than FAKO's the same day. I've only compared once, but that seems to be the general consensus.

in short . . .

You can trust FAKO's are in the ball park

I don't know if that's true for everyone. I think it varies person by person. Several months ago my FICOs were all lower than my PG FAKOs, one by 15 points, but now my FICOs are quite a bit higher than my FAKOs, with only EQ being within one point. I think the only thing to do is pay for my EQ and EX reports directly from their own websites to see how they compare to the myfico.com scores.

The EX score (or any score from the CRAs) is your FAKO score.

Just because Experian leases their software from Fair Isaac does not mean that they (EX) does not add their own ideas of a worthy credit picture into the formulas.

I've found that EX tends to be the lowest of the three FAKO scores, and many times the furthest away from a true FICO. It's the 8th mystery of the world....

The scores I pulled from FICO were close to the broker's scores. I don't know where he pulled his from.
Did he pull three scores or just one?
PG scores were not accurate. EXP way lower with him. EQU way higher with him. TU slightly higher with him.
That's why PG scores are referred to as "FAKO" scores. Most on here only use them as a guideline to chart progress. Shouldn't be relied on when applying for credit, etc.

That's why their code is secret! All these examples show a closeness however. For me, FAKO lets me know the ballpark and that's plenty good enough. If it ever isn't . . . then I'll whip out a discount code and www.myfico.com will take me out of the pale shadow of doubt.

Press on credit score soldiers!

  • 1 month later...

Hello:

I recently applied for a car loan. They told me my EX FICO was 607; although my Experian Credit Manager told me their score was 673, and Privacy Guard said my EX score was 669. That's a huge difference.

I wish Credit Manager and Privacy Guard offer FICO scores with paid membership.

Good Luck to all,

Michael

Hi

About a month ago I got my credit report from truecredit.com and it gave me one score. This was before I found this board, I always thought that there was just one score and now I am hearing about individual scores. Anyway is this score accurate?

Thats a FAKO. Only somewhat accurate.

My EX was 615 on FAKO, and 585 (BLEH!) on myfico... But my EQ are always pretty close......
