Info on court Judgments

My wife had some credit cards she got into debt with, credit card company took her to court and got her to sign at courthouse with credit company lawyer, before getting judgment in court, agreeing to payments that cannot be adhered to (don't have the money). We have tried to keep up with payments, and in the interim, they purchased another of her accounts from another OC and pressured her into payments for that also (she never got summons on 2nd one). Now we have fallen way behind on payments and they say that they are going to put lien on house for this. Can they do that? What options or suggestions? We ive in Florida, house was purchased by me, but she is listed on all paperwork.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As I recollect, there is a 100% exemption on your house in FLorida. It could still be a lien, which means they can force payment if you go to sell or refinance, but they can't take it away from you. You should talk to a local lawyer to get the real skinny. I would be more worried if she has a bank account or checking account. If you have joint accounts, get her name off them.

well we do have a joint bank account, does that mean they can come after the money in there or are you referring to them being able to tie me to her accounts?

One ting you can do it open an account in your nam at another bank, give her a Power of Attorney over that bank account. That way she can access the account, but you maintain legal ownership of teh account and the money in it. I have known others who have done so in situations simialr to yours
