Yesterday I answered the telephone and was advised by a collection agency that they were trying to collect a debt for capital one for $600.00. I stated tha I did not have a debt from Capital one. The person on the line said well the debt is from 1986. I was like excuse me? Then they asked me for my maiden name and the last 4 digits of my social security number. I told them they must have the wrong number. They said oh, we might have the wrong number. We will validate this and call you back in a couple of weeks. Anyway, I have been trying to clean my report and this item is listed. Capital One will not remove it so maybe the CA will. so I am glad that they called. Since it's been almost 20 years, they won't have any other choice but to remove it from my credit report.

Any advice? Suggestions? I can't believe this!

Wait a minute... you say this debt is from 1986 and its STILL on your reports ?? If this debt went delinquent 18 years ago, then there is NO WAY that dog should be pooping on your reports now !! If Crap 1 has illegally re-aged this debt, then its time for a lawsuit against them !

Is the debt listed as Crap 1 or as the CA? I've had CA reported stuff revert back to the OC but then fall off a few days later. I was in same situation with way old stuff thanks to those stupid junk debt buyers....

Usually a well worded DV letter w/Complete C&D does the trick to get it removed. Reporting it to the FTC, ACA, AG, and BBB is encouraged! It will take some time though to get it gone.

So-DV them and complain if you want to just get it removed. DV, complain and file a suit if you want to try to get it removed AND $1000 for your effort.
