JJ_The_Disputer
Hello! I'm really glad to have found this site! Iordered the book and CD, and I'm rearing to go to try and get my CR straightened out and back on track!I recently applied for an FHA loan and the loan officer we dealt with was a really nice lady who worked very hard to get me approved but in the end, some things came back to bite me.While we were in the process of having the loan worked on, out of the blue a collection agency called my house and spoke with my wife. My wife let the cat out of the bag about us trying to get the loan, and they offered to settle. They're not supposed to talk to anyone but me about this, are they? I really didn't think too much of it at the time, but now I see that it was a mistake for her to have told the CA rep that I was trying for an FHA loan.I'm just wondering how this might affect me when I go to begin the credit repair process. DocDon
Welcome!Words such as rearing, reckon, fixin, and "slicker than otter snot", etc. are not acceptable on this site. Kidding, of course.A CA can speak to your spouse regarding the debt. I'd say send out a DV letter ASAP - that will prevent the CA from continuing collection activity (ie: report to the CRA's if it hasn't been done so already), and make them provide you with proof of the debt.Worst case is you'll probably have to settle the matter before you can finalize the loan, and if it gets to that, make "deletion of the entry with the CRA's" part of the settlement agreement. As always, get everything in writing, and do not, ever, speak to a CA over the phone. JJ_The_Disputer
Dang it! I thought I had cleansed myself of my southern dialect to the point where I could go undetected. (Note to self...rearing is a no-no) Thanks for the super-quick reply. Looking at the diagram on how DV is properly done, I see that I DO need to start the dispute with the CRA at the same time. The problem with this is, I don't have the copies of my credit report yet, they should be coming in the mail soon. I do have a merged report that was supplied by the company I was trying to get the loan with, but to my understanding, I need the actual report from the CRA. I'll get the letter out as soon as I can, but it might be a week.
DocDon
LOL. You'll fit in fine around here.... The flowchart is an excellent guideline, but as with everything, it's not cast in stone. Every situation is different, and sometimes different tactics, or combonation of tactics is in order (if the item isn't reporting, there's no need to dispute because there is nothing to dispute with the CRA's).Check out Privacy Guard (www.privacyguard.com) or Credit Manager (www.experian.com). For a small introductory fee (PG) or free 30-day trial (Credit Manager), you can pull your credit report online and have it there in front of you. Plus, you can monitor the activity on it for the next 30 days. It'll let you know if something's been inserted into your credit file (ie: the CA).
