What determines good listing or negative listing on CR?

I have two Capital One CC accounts that I paid nearly a year ago. One I paid in full and the other I settled for less than the full balance.

On my Experian CR it shows the settled account as an "account in good standing", yet the account that I paid in full is listed as a "potential negative listing". How can that be right? I would think that the account Paid in Full would be in good standing, and the settled account would be the potentially negative.

The Status of the paid in full account is shown as follows:

"Status: Closed/Account charged off. $742 written off.

Creditor's statement: Account closed at credit grantor's request."

Is that the problem? Shouldn't it show "Account Closed/Paid".

Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

I would call Cap1 and if you get nowhere with them, send them a certified mail letter with an intent to sue.

What probably happened is that they never bothered to go back and adjust the chargeoff to reflect the payoff. Was it charged off before you made that deal?

You know I am not sure. It was in Collections with OSI and they are some nasty people! We had 3 cards with them, and we agreed to bring one up to date, paid one off for the full amount and settled the third.

I have written to Cap One and asked them to change it to reflect Paid/Closed - we will see what happens.

It is so confusing how they list these on the CRs. ALso I wonder what it is doing to the credit score.
