Unsure how to go about contesting this CA action...

I was in an auto accident when I didnt have insurance and foolishly drove off. A CA sent me a bill but the lawyer handled it and I never heard about it again.

The judge didn't order reparations so am I even responsible for this now? I don't know what to put in my validation because all I've seen on this site is debt collection for medical bills and credit/loans. This seems different in that I didn't sign any contracts, and a judge ruled on my case saying I didn't have anything to pay.

Any advice on how to proceed contesting this collection?

Thanks

First off, I would contact the Attorney who handled the case for you. He should have the information you need, and, may have copies of the transcript. Do that first, then let us know what transpired. Until you have the necessary answers, do not make contact with the CA. If they push you, as a last resort, tell them you have an Attorney assisting you. This will stop their calls for a few days. What happens is when you inform them you have an Attorney, they are not to communicate with you, only your Attorney. BUT, if the Attorney fails to respond to them within a reasonable period of time, such as 30 days, they can again communicate with you. Your goal for now is to stall long enough for you to obtain your evidence to prove your liability, if there is any. You can also contact the courthouse and ask for copies of the transcript, so you will have your own copies.

As to what you are saying, I would agree you owe nothing, but, without the actual wording of the case, it is hard to say what the Judge actually meant. When you let us know what was said, we can give you a better idea of what to do next. To include, you are correct as to this being different from our normal operation, but, do not fear, we will find the best answer for you. There are Attorney's who share with us and offer very good advice. Just hold on for a couple of days for others to respond. In the meantime, call the Attorney and courthouse.
