terri888
Hi, I have two open CAs on the CR, they are medical accounts with the samehospital. I am in FL. They are the only things marring a full 12 month clear credit. I took care of a lot of stuff and tried to buy a house a year ago. We are Vet Affairs qualified for a loan, but they would not finance until we had one year clear credit. We have done that except for these two medical accounts. The collection agents sent us a settlement letter for one account dropping $210 to $147. I wrote them and offered to settle both accounts (totalling $288.40) for $200 if they agreed to delete the entries off the CR. No response 2 weeks later. (I sent RRR letter). To make things worse the lease on our house has just expired and we have been given 30 days to get out by the end of November as the owner wants to sell. We have just gone through a hurricane and there are NO rental properties in the area. So we are in a predicament. Would prefer to buy, and am working on that, but need those medical accounts to disappear.I spoke to the coll agent and he said that they do not have the power to delete the accounts and if we pay them today we can write to the OC and ask for them to be deleted. He said that the OC will not do that without a valid reason ie never received the account, valid dispute with the account etc. He even said if we pay them in full as a sign of good faith the OC would look at it better - now i realize he is just trying to make his money so I understand that comment. What to do??? Should I pay the accounts and then try to negotiate with the OC, or should I hold out and see what else happens? We really do not have a lot of time for waiting. Please help people, we are getting desperate.
willingtocope
Just my thought, but I'd suggest you call the hospital. Tell them you just found them on your CR....thought the insurance had paid them...gee, I'm sorry...I'll send you a check immediately...if you'll call it back from CA and clear my CR... terri888
Thank you for the suggestion. I took it and called the hospital, I made full payment and they are making me a letter to show that I have paid it in full and that they have notified the CRAs to show it as Paid in Full. She suggested I pick the letter as I can send it it the CRAs and get it changed quicker than waiting for the CA to do it. Seemed to be the best I could do. I spoke to a mortgage agent this morning and he seems to think that they will disregard this account as it is a medical account anyway. So we may be okay - wish us luck!Thank you
willingtocope
Terrific! That makes my day...Make sure you make lots of copies of that letter, you'll probably need them later. The CA may require some "convincing" later on...
