creditcardcory
I cosigned a card for a small business 2 years ago. ($500) The business never paid it and I was contacted last May about it. The card balance was now at $1200 with the interest. I paid it. Capital One has reported this item on my credit report as charge off/collection/paid. I have gotten no where with them since this happened. They always forward me to recovery; and this has been paid in full. What do I do to get this off of my report?

Legally-they do not have to stop reporting it until 7yrs + 180 days from the delinquency date. There are tips here to get these types of accounts removed-but really-your kind of stuck. There are lots of peeps here with history with Cap 1-perhaps they can offer some advice. Sorry I couldnt help more.
credithelp
Your best bet would have been to negotiate with them before you paid it, but not all is lost. First try to do a goodwill letter to them explaining what happened and that you paid the debt since you were a cosigner. When i have more time i will write more. Recovering Attorney
Try the goodwill approach. But address the letter to the CEO of Cap 1, you can get his name at their website, or Hoovers, or Yahoo. Send it CMRRR and ask for a response in 30 days. You will get more shrift from the executive office than the stiffs in the mailrrom.
Ahntara
Cap One is notorious for ignoring GW letters. I would still recommend that you TRY, but I'm adding my .02 that you should try some "nutcase" letters if that doesn't work. creditcardcory
I have sent out my goodwill letter today and have my n utcase letter ready to go. Should I wait for a response before the nutcase letter goes out. I'm really anxious to send it.I'm sending one nutcase letter to a gas utility that reported that I was 60 days late in April of 2003 and will not remove it. I have been trying every month a year by disputing it with the credit bureaus. I'll let you know what happens. This website is great.-Cory
creditcardcory
I tried with the GW letter to the EVP and cap1 stood their ground so I sent a nutcase letter as a follow up. In the meantime, they have updated my April 2004 Chargeoff with a November 2004 reporting date.
