creditcardcory
My wife had an old loan her father disputed in 1997. He said everything was fine. He is no longer around so cannot be reached to verify this. We pulled her credit report today (first time in a while) and have noticed that this loan is listed as "open". The "Date Open" is 5/1/2003. Of course this is not true. How does this happen and what can we do about it?
J_Snow
Dispute it with the CRA-they will attempt to verify it with the OC and then it should get changed to closed. As long as the account is in good standing-it shouldnt be hurting scores. If this isnt your wifes account-then dispute as not mine. If it comes back verified-then you will need to contact the entity that is reporting it and ask them to remove it. If its a Collection agency-DV them. If its a creditor-then a letter explaining the situation and asking for them to remove it is how to start.
