luckyduck
I don't think a credit file can be created until a credit related transaction happens, i.e. inquiry, being added as authorized user to someone else's card, maybe even trying to pull your own nonexistent report will actually create one. It may tell you no such file, but create one, then when you check again it will be there. I had that happen with an address. Pulled under new address that hadn't been reported yet, and it wouldn't send me a report. But it added the address so the next time I tried, it was there, and I had access to it.No actual experience with TIN but that's what makes sense when thinking of how the reporting works generally. DocDon
ITINs are for tax purposes and are not valid identification outside the tax system according to the IRS....
beeboah
correct, but most banks will accept them in the US even specifically ask for them in lieu of a social security number....I know that you are merely reflecting what the IRS says... DocDon
That's an interesting clash with the Patriot Act.... wonder if banks are aware of that... beeboah
I guess that you drive a point. Do a search on the internet for ITIN while looking beyond the IRS domain and you might find URLs which show how it can be used for identification purposes at financial institutions. I have not done that search for some time, but clearly recall my US credit union and other banks in my state asking for that in lieu of a SS#I have no idea of what the banks are thinking, just recalling what they asked for.The IRS was in reality very critical when substantiating my wifes' identity. I kid you not when I tell you that we applied for it in the US and received it in the UK nearly one year later

lakpr
kit? did I miss something?Don't blame you one bit for wondering, but sometime ago there was a scam advising people to apply for ITINs and use them to open a new credit file, and having a "kit" to show how to do it ..... edubb007
Yeah! It was bad! You can go to jail! I remember it...Go to Post Office and get a PO BOX...Register as address for business...Apply for ITIN # through State or Gov to that PO BOX...Receive Tax packet and get #...Go and apply for credit with ITIN#...Get busted and go to jail! Or look really stupid when the guy at Structure asks for a Social# and you give him this weird number!
