What about catalog "membership" cards?

Recommended Posts

Any thoughts on these cards that look like a V or MC with a high credit line, but are really memberships to purchase only the company's products via their catalogs?

I just got an e-mail offer for "USA Platinum" with a $7500 "credit" line. I investigated and read the T&C, and the appeal is that this could help re-build credit. They don't have any outrageous fees and report to all 3 CRA's. I wish I could see what their "products" were though. You can't see a catalog until after you are approved and they send some kit to you in the mail.

last night i was doing a search on secured credit cards and i came across this one. several websites had links under ways to rebuild credit for this company. i didn't read all the details, but i have received similar offers in the mail, and they always had lots of up front fees and initial minimum purchases, etc....

The quality of the products are many times not something you'd want to give as a gift if you know what I mean.

To get the 'higher quality' products, you many times have to lay out a generous cash deposit.

Check their "fees" again. You'll see they try to sneak a lot more fees into the package than you think.

There seems to have been great success with National City and their secured card. Give them a try.
