scrapwench Posted November 28, 2004 Report Posted November 28, 2004 I'm getting ready to file for divorce. Hubby just filed chapt 7 bk alone. We have NO joint accounts, house and car are in his name only as well. Is there anything I need to worry about from a credit standpoint during the divorce?I figured it would be wiser to wait until after the divorce to start cleaning up my credit, since I'll have moved and I'm hoping it will be easier to have old names/addresses removed.
morrow Posted November 28, 2004 Report Posted November 28, 2004 Im sorry to hear that scrapwrench Hopefully its for the best.
scrapwench Posted November 29, 2004 Author Report Posted November 29, 2004 Yep, it's for the best. I just want to try and make sure that I don't go down in flames because of it.
efish Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 Speaking from experience......I would pull all three of my credit reports and make sure nothing is listing as "joint". If possible have him pull his as well and double check there is nothing listed jointly on his either. If not, you should be good to go, if there is something, call the creditor ASAP and let them about your situation and ask what you can do to cover yourself. I would check and double check, especially if he is filing a BK, it will come back to bite you in the butt. Also find out if you live in a community property state, if you do, sometimes it makes no difference if it's joint or not. Good luck!
