gravelgirl66 Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 Hi, I hope ya'll can help.Since I have found this place, I work on everybody's credit now. Anyways, a friend just turned 18 about 6months, and I had her get all 3 reports. She is showing a Collection Acct. from 4years ago for the phone Company. She would have only been 14 then. It shows in her name. How should I handle this?Say not mine with the bureau or go to the OC and state something to the effect of "credit issued to a MINOR"-- is that even legal?thanks so much>>>
wunderwoman Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 Do a Debt Validation with the Collection agency and Dispute as IDENTITY FRAUD, because at 14 she could not have opened the account. Do you know which address is associated with the account? Does she live alone or with her parents?
edubb007 Posted November 29, 2004 Report Posted November 29, 2004 I would dispute right off the bat as not mine. If it comes back verified than send a CMRR letter to CA or OC for validation (THEY WON'T HAVE IT) than when they can't DV the TL than go back to CRA with appropriate documentation. Sound right?
miracle Posted November 30, 2004 Report Posted November 30, 2004 Yup! You could even send the letter to the CRA and the OC or CA at the same time. See what comes back. Even if she did take it out in her name, it isn't valid because anyone under 18 cannot sign a legal contract. That one should be pretty easy to get rid of. Let us know what happens! -Jenn
