Methuss
Now this is a consumer protection law that deserves some attention. If passed, this law will require all credit reporting agencies compiling files on Illinois residents to be licensed by the Illinois Commerce Commission, will ban the reporting of Utility company accounts (including cable and cell-phone) to consumer credit reports, and will penalize CRAs that fail to properly investigate disputes with fines and 3 month-long suspensions of their ability to operate against Illinois residents. The law is currently in the Judiciary committee and has undergone 1st debate.I think one of our State Reps just found out personally how hard it is to get inaccurate info off a report. 'bout bloody time!
wunderwoman
That's good news, seeing I just had a fraudulent People's Energy account closed that was in my name. It's on my report, and should be deleted within days. I'm afraid there may be other "utility" accounts out there with my name on them and it makes me feel better that they won't be reported (though i may not find out who the culprit is). creditcardcory
I have Peoples Energy reporting late payments: 3-30days, 2-60days, and 1-90days. I have had this account paid off in full since I moved 6 months ago and they will still not remove the info. Then I had to go through all of my files that were not unpacked yet to find the cancelled checks for each instance. I mailed copies certified 17 days ago and have not seen changes as of yet.My point is that Peoples Gas Sucks.
Methuss
Don't count on Peoples changeing anything. I have a suit pending against them on my wife's behalf. They've been filing continuances for 6 months. Basically they reported a charge-off on her credit report 2 months AFTER it was paid in full. The amount before I paid it was disputed as well because they continued to charge for 6 weeks after we left an apartment. Their excuse? The landlord didn't give them access to the meter so they said we had to pay even though we had long since moved out.Corporate extortion...That's my term for all this BS. Doesn't matter if it is a cell phone, a credit card or a car loan...it's still extortion when a consumer is forced to pay on disputed accounts in order to protect their credit report.
