LearningCredit Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 In February of 2003, I checked my credit report and saw that there was a collection account for a cellular phone company with a balance of $200.00. 1 week later I paid the entire balance and within 2 weeks it was reported to Equifax as PAID IN FULL. I made the payment to the collection agency's attorney's office which handles cases that go to 'LEGAL' status. The law office then contacted the collection agency and the collection agency notified Equifax.Last month I disputed this account and it came back verified. Yesterday I called the collection agency to ask them if they could remove it and they said that they don't have permission to remove the account because I paid their attorney and not them. They told me to contact their attorney's office and that they would square it away. I contacted the attorney's office and they said that the only people who can remove the account from Equifax is the actual CELLLAR PHONE COMPANY. ARE THEY JUST PLAYING WITH ME? CAN'T THE CA DELETE THE ACCOUNT SINCE THEY ARE THE ONES ON THE CRA??
goodmank Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 The furnisher of the information can delete the information.
LearningCredit Posted December 4, 2004 Author Report Posted December 4, 2004 Even though the account is paid, should I still send them a DV letter and tell them that they must delete this from the CRA's?
goodmank Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 You could try a "Good Will" letter to the phone company........The problem is that it is paid and you have no leverage.
LearningCredit Posted December 6, 2004 Author Report Posted December 6, 2004 Yes, but the account is not mine. It is still reporting as a colleciton.
