What a pickle to be in. A Trustee would definitely ask if you're expecting any kind of inheritance and they can wait a loooonng time to take it too. While I understand how you feel about calling to ask about the inheritance, in this case it might be best to clamp down on the pride and do it. Since its going to be probated, you could just call the lawyer and ask him/her as (s)he will know the details. You can explain why you're asking, just say that other legal proceedings will hinge on the outcome of the probate to you, so you need to have some idea how to, or whether or not, to proceed.
