Florida newbie with Unifund questions

Newbie here!

Unifund is currently pursuing an AT&T Mastercard debt (charged-off 2/02) via a law firm in FL. In October, I received a letter from the law firm telling me that they are representing Unifund CCR/Citibank Universal and that I had 30 days to dispute, etc. I didn't send them a DV letter within the 30 days, so last Friday (12/3), I got another letter from them stating the current balance owed to Unifund. I'm not sure how much I owed at the time I defaulted, but the original credit limit was $2000 and they are saying I now owe just under $6000. Ouch!

I did a search to find out if Unifund or Unifund CCR was licensed in the state of Florida and no records came up. I assume that I should still send them a DV letter, but should I mention that I know that they aren't licensed in my state? If so, how should I phrase that? Should I send the DV to the attorneys or to both the attorneys and Unifund?

Also, there is no record of this account on any of my credit reports, so I'm not sure when the SOL expires. The charge-off date (according to Unifund's info) was 2/02, so does that make the DOLA 8/01 (six months/180 days earlier)?

Thanks!

Let me tell you about Unifund they are sneaky snakes they were the CA for my husbands Providion they hired an attorney from south Florida they served us with papers and took us to court the problem is niether Unifund or the Attorneys did their homework because I was only an authorized user on the card and they stuck it to me to, I am now looking into taking legal action against them.
