THIS IS BS!! So what do I do about it?

I just got a DV reponse from a CA, Penn Credit Corp, that is some print-out of a traffic citation number, case number, statute, etc. There are no original documents of any kind.

The apparent violation is "driving while license suspended" in a county that I don't even live in, with a "fail to comply date" of 11/18/00. WHAT?!?! My DL has never been suspended 1st of all, and don't they think that if this was a correct record, that it will STILL be suspended due to my "failure to comply"? WTF? This is just plain WRONG!! What do I do about this!?! Should I tell them my license is not and never was suspended, and to take this off my credit immediately? Not to mention, the lame print-out they sent is HARDLY proof of anything obviously!!!

First, you need to take that information and go to DMV or whoever handles these things in your state and get a statement or something that proves they have the wrong person. Make SURE there is nothing on the books in error. Then write these people, WITH YOUR PROOF that they have the WRONG person and tell them to cease and desist and remove all entries from the CRAs.

Thanks for the advice, however, why should I have to take the time and the pain in the butt initiatives to provide them this proof? Isn't the burden of proof on them? Again, they did not provide original documents or tickets, just some print out. Jerks.

It may be a pain in the butt, but YOU are going to have to be the one to clear it up. It won't handle itself. :D

Your compelling interest in this is to make sure it's not reported in your CR, further complicating the matter.

Do as Lady said and it should be a relative piece of cake to clear up and give you piece of mind.

yes--and as Lady said--you also need to make sure your DMV record is clear--and that there is nothing erroneously on it. Mistakes do happen with DMV records and they can cost you (insurance, warrents, etc).

I once got a summons for speeding in SF and running a red light! The citation had the make and license number of my car--but although I have been to SF--I do not drive while there, and had never taken this particular car there. Plus--the ticket was issued on a workday--when I was hundreds of miles away working.

Upon fighting it--I found that the issuer had written down a license number wrong when he issued the ticket--this was not mine--and I successfully got it off my record. However, if I had not taken it off my record--the fees would have kept going up--a warrent for my arrest could have been issued--and my insurance costs could have gone up.

this site is focused on credit reports--but there are plenty of other databases that people need to be aware of--and make sure they only have accurate information!
