screwtape
I have a zero balance on this account, and they will not offer godwill on a late payment (for $7).If that's their policy, with their exorbitant rates, I'm inclined just to flat out cancel them. Two thoughts1. Will cancelling this account hit my score?2. If I tell them to cancel, might they budge on the goodwill? 2a If that's so, is it best to cancel via letter, or via phone - where you might get a salesman to about my situation? Thanks
Recovering Attorney
I have had lots of experience with MBNA. They will do a lot of things, but change a credit report is not among them. You can cut up the card, and just let the account garner points for utilization or lack thereof. If you want to cancel the account, do it by letter. Tell them you wish to CANCEL the account and they should report it to the agencies as CLOSED AT CONSUMER REQUEST. Then check your reports on a regular basis to see it is reported that way. Do it by phone and you will not get what you want, reporting wise
DocDon
If they can actually justify damaging your credit for 7 years over 7 dollars, then why would you want to do business with such a company. Check that... why would you want to keep such a company in business by giving them money every month?
ElorraM
I have written several goodwill letters on behalf of friends for lates for MBNA. I have yet to have them remove one. They state it is not their policy to remove correct information. I personally think it's really crappy that you've had an account with them for five years and can't get one 30 day late removed.
