tough question

In 2001 I was assaulted and went to my local Abused Adult Resource Center right afterwards. They immediately brought me into the ER and I remember being told at the time that the bill would be covered by something called Crime Victims. Well, apparently it wasn't because it is on my report twice! It is two different amounts so I guess maybe it is one fee for the emergency room and another fee for the doctor. Anyway, it is 2 seperate negatives. I tried to dispute it based on the special circumstances, but they both were confirmed. Now what should I do?

i had the exact same thing happen to me! Victims Witness was supposed to pay for it, but somehow the state lost the file and never even pressed charges, until 2 years later. By then the collection was placed. Mine is due to fall of next year, but i may try to DV that one - i havent done that yet. Good luck on yours!

Contact the local Crime Victims Compensation Board to find out/apply for compensation. I'm not sure they pay the entire medical bill but if you have medical insurance that should've covered at least the ER bill. Sometimes the ER doctor bills you separately in which case you would have to submit two claims.

first step, send them a DV letter, CMRR after you get your green cards back send another dispute to the CRA

jojo, the debt collector has not contacted the poster yet in connection with the collection of the debt. Therefore, the poster's validation rights period has not started yet. The debt collector is not under any obligation to supply verification at this point.

However, if the debt collector called the collection agency and they attmepted to collect the debt, they would have 5-days to send the poster the validation rights notice. THEN the consumer's effective validation rights begin. And 9 times out of 10, they do not send the required notice and thus are in violation.

The original poster should try calling their local District Attorney's office and ask for the "Victim/Witness Advocate." The victim/witness fund is what the poster is refering to.

Exalent advice, that's out of my area of knowledge. I know one time I was assulted, didn't have insurance I was able to apply for medicaid at the time to help cover the expenses, but I don't know if that's the norm or it was just me.

another thing you might check, homeowner's insurance, or auto insurance,?? sometimes they have a claus in such a case.
