A New Member With Some (possibly) Naive Questions

I found this site last night and it will likely be my new home for next several months.

Like some here, I have wasted money on various places like the Lexington Law Firm and others that said they would help me but in the end did very little.

Right now I'm on disability and unable to work, so I decided that now would be a good time to use all of this slack time and finally do something about my credit.

Paying any of my outstanding debts is just out of the question and I'm seriously considering a Chapt 7 BK, but I would also like to scrub all of the derofitory stuff off, if at all possible.

Also, haw many here have bought the book and has it told you anything you did not already know?

Is it worth the $25 or so it costs?

How many people here have taken their credit scores from the middle to low 500's to anything above 620?

That seems to be the magic cut-off point for rejoining the real world.

Thanks!

Welcome DBCooper! :)

Glad you found us!

I would say the book is most certianly worth it.. It lays it out and is a good item to reference.

When I started about a year ago I believe I was in the 560s. Right now I am at 660-670.. so it is possible. I have heard of others having more progress starting at lower scores, I think you will find all sorts of situations on these boards. :)

Hang in there and good luck!

Thanks for the warm welcome Miracle, I'll grab the book then and start reading.

I'm glad you mentioned the progress you made in your scores. That gives me encouragement.

Like I said, I have the time (oh BOY do I have time) and a burning desire to wipe my slate clean.

DB, well I must confess... I've never been able to afford to buy the book, but this site has become a part of my daily routine. I spend about 2 hours a day here just reading the posts. When I started working on my husband's and my reports, ours scores were literally "0" at all three reporting agencies. A week ago, we applied for a home construction loan and hubbies score at EX was 701. Still waiting to hear on the loan, but we did the happy dance when we heard that hubby finally made it to the 700 club! We started getting results with the first round of letters and it took about 9 months to get all the negatives off except for a chapter 11 that EQ refuses to remove until the full ten years elapse for reporting. (Chap. 11's mostly come off after 7 years.) Anyway, we spent a total of about $60.00 in postage to get a total of 11 negatives removed, and it was all because of Credit Info Center and the great information they provide! Read, read, read. Then go for it! I've seldom had so much fun or felt so empowered!

ME! I started in March with opting out, then started my repair in earnest in July. I was below 550 on all three reports. I have been very lucky I think.

I pulled my real FICOs on the 17th, and saw i had a 705 on EQ (With 3 inq and semi-high util%)

It can be done. Just don't get frustrated and give up. There will be setbacks..........

If you have been denied credit, which I am sure all of us have  , you can call the CRA's and request a copy of your report for free. It takes about a week to receive it in the mail.

TransUnion - 800-888-4213

Experian - 866-200-6020

Equifax - 800-997-2493

And also you can signup for the credit watch reports. The one I use daily is PrivacyGuard. You get a 2 month "trial" membership for $1. After that it cost $12.99/mo. Well worth it if you ask me. If you can't afford that you can signup for another trial period by using a different credit card number.

Good luck and keep us posted witrh your results.
