problem with collection agency

Am I right in telling my mother in law that this collection agency that calls her 4 times a day is breaking the law? The sol has expired on her account and I just had a yelling match with this man and he said that the sol hasn't expired that her account has activity for today. The sol starts the day of last payment correct? If she has been making $50 payments does that change the date of last activity?

There is no set amount of times they can call. It is all judged on "reasonable." Does she answer each time? Does he ask the same questions each time? These are the important questions to ask her.

If she is hanging up on them without giving them the info they want, it may not be unreasonable.

All she has to do is write a letter request they cease communication with her. THATS IT (and not to be confused with the silly "do not call" letter)

The sol has expired on her account and I just had a yelling match with this man and he said that the sol hasn't expired that her account has activity for today.

So they were discussin her debt with a 3rd party?

Making payments CAN reset the SOL for suing. The reporting period for the consumer report is 7 years (generally) from the date of ORIGINAL DELINQUENCY, NOT the date of last activity.
