Letter from OC...am I being baited or being paranoid?

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I've sent verification letters to all of the OCs on my reports to ask for documentation verifying their listings. All of these accounts are 3+ years old so I'm hoping they don't have the records. The response from one creditor is below. Given this, do you think this is enough to send the CRAs to have the account removed? Do you think its safe to send blacked-out copies of the reports and trust they will remove it?

Dear NefertitiX:

Thank you for your recent request to have your account number XXXX, removed from your credit file. After researching your request, we were unable to find an account by that number at Equifax, Experian or TransUnion.

If you are able to provide us with a copy of the credit report which lists this account, please forward it to our office. Upon receipt, we will update your credit file accordingly.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact our office at 1-800-XXX-XXXX.

Sincerely,

OC

That sounds like a total crock!! If it's on your credit report then someone has to be reporting it and furthermore, if they have no record of it then it should be deleted, you shouldn't have to send them anything. I would dispute with the CRA's, since the CA/OC seems to have amnesia....LOL It also sounds like violations as well if they are acknowledging that they have no record of the debt but are reporting it.

Doesn't say anything about them checking their own system. Sounds like they just pulled your credit reports and looked.

Do not send them copies of anything. These people should have a grasp on what they're doing, or they shouldn't be in business.
