Does "In Dispute" lower my credit score?

For the past two years I've tried to get some charge offs removed. I've sent letters to the OCs via CMRRR and have disputed with the CRAs. The OCs do not provide validation, yet when I contact the CRAs they either say that the debt was validated, or that I cannot dispute as they were previously verified and my request is frivolous. It my own fault for not staying on them, but alas, I'm a hardcore procrastinator.

However, now I want to buy a new car in the Spring and want have these items removed to increase my scores.

I finally sent letters to the OCs (via CMRRR) at the end of Dec 04 telling them I've sent you several letters in the past, you've not proven validation, please remove these incorrect listings by 2/15/05 or I intend to sue.

I have two questions.

1) If a tradeline shows that it is listed as "in dispute", does this lower my score? Many of these items show charge offs from over 1 1/2 years ago, but list in dispute.

2) I read somewhere that once you receive your green cards back from sending letters CMRRR to the OC (as I mentioned I did above) I should send a letter to the CRA with copies of my letter to OCs along w/green cards and tell them that they must remove because the OC cannot validate?

Most notably, Experian has sent me a letter saying that they've verified through the OC, but if the OC can't provide me with accurate info, how can the CRA report?

Please advise. Sorry for the long post.

thirty days after getting the green cards back from the CA asking for validation, send another letter asking them for removal since they can not seem to validate.. After 15 days if you have not heard back from the CA, send both letters and green card copies to the reporting agencies asking for method of verification if they said they verified with the creditor. If they still report, send out the ITS letters.
