CA Reaging Husband's Account...

OK... I just realized that my husband's collection account from before we even met had activity reported by the CA in 8/04. He hasn't EVER done anything with this account. The debt is from 7 years ago. I have absolutely no proof in the form of an earlier credit report that it's been reaged... and I have absolutely no further documentation. I don't really even know if I've got the CA's address. (They might be listing it twice as well... but I can't really tell...)

What should I do?

Reporting the date opened has little do with it now, since you have no documentation regarding this account.

I9 means the account was charged off. As such, they must by law have charged this account off 180 days after non-payment.

As adminppdotcom stated, you have to check the information against the information from the OC (ie: how they're reporting it, and if incorrect what the true information is).

If it were me...and I have done this a couple of time...write a letter for your DH to the OC and ask for a payment history on the account. Say that according to the credit reports (name the CRA's reporting the info) there was activity reported on the account recently and that you were sure the account was closed and paid in full around 7 years ago. Be sure to have hubby sign it so it looks like he wrote it. The thing is, when you first start dealing with an OC or a CA, act like the dumb consumer that they assume you are. If you appear to be a dumb consumer initially, well, they just about fall all over themselves to show you the error of your ways. I've gotten some good results with this tactic, recieving the proof I needed to get the deletes I was after.
