I am new to cleaning up my credit and need advice as to my next step. I DV'd an old paid medical collection account. I receive the following response back from the CA:

The account number you referenced in you letter is for services provided at **Hospital for medical services to John Doe on May 15, 1999. This account was placed for collection in the amount of $70. The account was paid on May 15, 2001. As a results, we are no longer involved in any collection efforts. However, in order to respond to your request, we have asked our client to provide you with an itemized statement for those charges. You should receive this information directly from their office.

So what do I do now? Can they still report to the credit bureau if they are no longer involved with this account? Any ideas to my next step would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Was the CA reporting it? If the CA was reporting it then they better go update it as GONE or they are in violation. Plain and Simple. You can dispute it with CRA and see if its removed that way.

If its being reported by the OC and it is not being reported correctly (such as showing a balance) then they are in violation. You can send them an ITS for $1000 for the violation and that you will do so unless they remove it.

They got the validation part 1/2 right -

Proper validation comes from the OC to the CA to you.

Sticky on disputing paid collections:
