luckyduck
Does anyone know where I can find out if spouses are responsible for one another's debts, and under what circumstances they would be reponsible? I searched IN code, and couldn't find anything there. I don't think we have spousal responsibility. We don't even have alimony. IL attorney wanted me to find out, and I can't find anything.Just wondering if anyone knows, so I don't look like a big when I tell him what I find. Thanks. luckyduck
This is a lawyer from Edelman, Combs. He wanted me to find out, and I told him this isn't a community property state. He said it didn't matter if it was community property. In some non-community property states, spouses are responsible for the necessities and debts of other spouses. It is ALWAYS that way in community property, and sometimes that way in other states. He said he thinks IN is one of those states, but i don't think it is.It's not a huge deal, I just wondered. If he really needs to know, he should be able to find out. As you know though, whatever the client can do to help, makes everyone's job a little easier. I'm not gonna kill myself over it though.
